How publishing with Daastan works

  1. 1

    Send the manuscript

Typed, handwritten, Urdu or English. If the book is already published and you only need printing or a place to sell it, send the print-ready files instead.

  2. 2

An honest review in three working days

An editorial read and a sample edit come back before any money changes hands. We say plainly what needs work; nothing is printed that should not be.

  3. 3

Choose the path and the price

E-books from Rs 25,000, self-serve. Print runs priced per copy from 50 copies: the calculator gives the estimate, a setup call fixes the details, one invoice follows.

  4. 4

    Publish, print, sell

ISBN, cover, a sales page on Daastan, courier to 871 cities and towns. You keep the rights, and 70% of every sale.

The full walk-through, with what each stage costs and why, is in how to publish a book in Pakistan. The numbers come from the pricing calculator.

Questions people ask before they get in touch

What does it cost to publish a book with Daastan?

It depends on length and format. E-books start at Rs 25,000, agreed on a discovery call. Print runs are priced per copy from 50 copies, so the calculator on our home page prices your book from the same rates we use, before you talk to anyone.

Do you publish in Urdu?

Yes. 201 of the 669 books on Daastan are Urdu, roughly a third, prose and poetry both, typeset by people who read the language.

How long does it take?

The editorial review comes back in three working days. An e-book is on sale within seven days of the manuscript arriving. Printing takes 10 to 15 working days from final file approval, and a reprint the same.

Do I keep the rights, and what do I earn?

You keep all rights; the book remains yours and you can take it elsewhere whenever you like. You set the price and keep 70% of every e-book sale and 70% of the net on every print copy.

What is the minimum print run?

Fifty copies. Deliberately low, so a first-time author does not have to commit to a thousand books to hold one. When you need more, the files are already here.

My book is already published. Can Daastan still help?

Yes. List it on Daastan for free and it finally gets found online. Printing is available on its own if you have print-ready files, and marketing campaigns can be added to any book, however it was published.

Does every book get an ISBN?

Yes. Every book published with Daastan carries its own ISBN, e-books included. A book you publish elsewhere keeps the ISBN it already has when you list it.

Where is the book sold, and do you deliver outside the big cities?

On Daastan, with its own sales page and a free sample, readable in our reader on any device. Print copies go by courier, cash on delivery, to 871 cities and towns across Pakistan.
